Born
and raised in rural Kentucky and Tennessee, the Pine Club
is a
three-piece Louisville, Kentucky, outfit weened on FM radio,
95 percent
humidity and the restlessness that can only be felt growing
up in a small
town. They have done their homework, honing a distinct
sound that can't
easily be categorized.
Their 2004 self-titled debut emerged with a sound that
fused influences like
the early Police, the Buzzcocks, Elvis Costello and the
southern power-pop
of Big Star. Recorded in spring 2004 at Logan Street Studios
in Louisville,
the record was released in late summer and has received
much regional
success. They have also contributed songs to the last two
Louisville is for
Lovers compilations, which showcases some of the best acts
the city has to
offer.
The Pine Club believes that rock 'n' roll should remember
its roots but
always keep lurching forward. They have taken the stage
with several
noteworthy bands of similar attitude, including Louisville's
own VHS or
Beta, New York's The Rogers Sisters, Brian Jonestown Massacre,
The Deathray
Davies, Thee Shams, and indie rock legends Spoon.
